A thought for Father's Day weekend

"God the Father with His Right Hand Raised in Blessing,"
 by Girolamo dai Libri, circa 1555
1. This is my Father's world,
 and to my listening ears
 all nature sings, and round me rings
 the music of the spheres.
 This is my Father's world:
 I rest me in the thought
 of rocks and trees, of skies and seas;
 his hand the wonders wrought.

2. This is my Father's world,
 the birds their carols raise,
 the morning light, the lily white,
 declare their maker's praise.
 This is my Father's world:
 he shines in all that's fair;
 in the rustling grass I hear him pass;
 he speaks to me everywhere.

3. This is my Father's world.
 O let me ne'er forget
 that though the wrong seems oft so strong,
 God is the ruler yet.
 This is my Father's world:
 why should my heart be sad?
 The Lord is King; let the heavens ring!
 God reigns; let the earth be glad!

This Is My Father's World - Text: Maltbie D. Babcock

Prayer for the 2nd Sunday after Pentecost

O Lord our God,We believe, and so we speak.  We speak of your grace, as it extends out to the world around us.  We speak of thanksgiving, for you have done great things among us.

We speak of your glory, because we believe that everything is for your sake; it is in you that we live and move and have our being.  You created us for yourself, so that our hearts are ever restless until we find rest in you.

Therefore, we do not lose heart; we believe, and so we speak.  By your grace, O God, let our worship today and the words we speak be guided and strengthened by your life giving Spirit, bringing our hearts ever closer to you, so that our lives might bring you honor and glory. Amen.
